We Traveled Around the World With an 18-Month-Old Toddler: Here’s What Happened

In November of 2018, we set off on one of our most ambitious adventures yet: a 5-week journey around the world with our 18-month-old daughter, Skyler. From Florida to Romania, Turkey, Australia, and New Zealand, this trip took us across continents, cultures, and time zones before looping us back home again.

Before kids, we had mastered long flights, budget airlines, and backpacking through dozens of countries. But traveling the world with a toddler? That was brand new territory.

Skyler wasn’t walking yet, which brought its own mix of blessings and chaos. We tried to pack light (ish), relied on a stroller more than we expected, and learned quickly that international travel with a baby isn’t impossible—it’s just a different kind of adventure.

This blog series shares what it was really like to circle the globe with a little one in tow: the wins, the wipeouts, the travel hacks, and the unforgettable moments that made it all worth it.

4 Countries. 5 Weeks. 2 Weddings. 1 Toddler Who Couldn’t Walk.

This trip wasn’t just for fun (though it definitely had its moments). We planned it around two weddings—one in Turkey and one in New Zealand—both for friends we met on our honeymoon years earlier. From there, we built a full loop around the globe, packing in new destinations, long flights, and a whole lot of adventure in between.

Each post in this series will walk through one leg of the journey, sharing how we navigated international travel with a toddler, what worked (and what didn’t), and the unforgettable moments that made it all worth it.

Romania: City Streets, Cold Weather, and Cozy Stroller Naps (Coming Soon)
Bucharest was chilly, stroller-friendly, and surprisingly welcoming for a city in November. From free walking tours to Christmas lights, Skyler took it all in.

Turkey: A Wedding in Istanbul and a Toddler Growth Spurt (Coming Soon)
Reuniting with friends from our honeymoon, celebrating love, and discovering that Istanbul is one of the most child-friendly cities we’ve ever visited.

Australia: Florida Vibes and a Wallaby Named Bruce (Coming Soon)
Warm weather, wildlife encounters, and a slower pace gave us all a bit of breathing room—and introduced Skyler to a wallaby she still talks about.

New Zealand: Mountains, Magic, and a Second Wedding (Coming Soon)
Our final stop brought fresh air, jaw-dropping landscapes, and another beautiful wedding—plus a chance to slow down and reflect before heading home.

Check back to see how we made traveling the world with a toddler possible!
